mp3's hand helds

This is like the super ipod for pc users. This plays music, has an fm tuner, plays pay per view tv, and has many other crazy options. I really think it is crazy how there are so many new things out there it is hard to keep up with all the new communication and protable options availabe to people for many different reasons. I think the portable mp3 market is so huge that it is crazy to keep up with almost everyone has an mp3 player of some kind. i think this is intersting because music is important to me and the accessibliity to music and others is in your hand.

Playing Games

Video Games it is crazy how common online gaming is especially role playing games. I know that i myself have gotten sucked into the world of the sims on my computer. It is just crazy to me sometimes to think about. Role playind games have this virtual reality and are another new set of social networking that alot of people are a part of. I think it is crazy how the interent and the act of playing a game has become such a world wide commodity that anyone can be a part of easily. It just goes to show how new media and communication outlets are around us even in the world of games.

ROBOTS AT HOME

Robots set to get homely by 2007

Child and the Irobi robot ponder each other
Robots are set to become increasingly familiar companions in homes by 2007, says a United Nations survey.
Seven times more robots will helping us out with the cleaning, security and entertainment in three years' time, as their price falls and they get smarter.

It is not quite the humanoid vision of blockbuster film I, Robot as many of them will be vacuum bots.

Two-thirds of the 607,000 domestic robots in use were bought in 2003, says the UN's annual World Robotics report.

By the end of 2007, 4.1 million robots will be doing jobs in homes, says the report by the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the International Federation of Robotics.

Robot pets: A human's new best friend?
As well as the vacuuming, they will take over tasks like mowing the lawn, cleaning pools, and washing windows.

Robots like Irobi, unveiled this week by Korean company Yujin Robotics, will be able to multiple tasks.

It is a net-based, all-in-one family robot complete with educational functions, home security, diary, entertainment, and message delivery capability.

--I think it is crazy how years ago robots in the home seemed like something that would happen many years from now but now it is becoming a reality. It is crazy how many robots and computers people have come to rely on in daily lives. It just is so odd to me what the world is coming to with robo dogs and robots that clean our house

Robo Pets

I know when i was younger i had a tamigatchi pet. Virtual pets are everywhere they even now have robo pets. I read quite a few articles where vetranarians and psychologist where testing to see the companionship of robo pets. They found that lots of people found that they thought the pet was a good companion. They don't need to be feed or cleaned up after. I find this very interesting because people are looking for computers and robots as viable companions now. it kinda messes with my head but at the same time i can appreciate maybe some of the benefits of having a pet that never dies but it is still kind of an odd concept for me.

Virginia Tech

i didn't realize that people could buy google ad terms but you can and after the virginia tech murders people where instaneously buying them up. Alot of the ads sent you to sites to ad new tool bars etc. I just think it is intersting how people use other people's emotions and use of new media and finding information about tragic events for profit or to further a media option. It is kind of bothersome but just goes to show that nothing isn't touched.

Facebook

Facebook has a news feed now....it has for awhile but so many things have been added to it ...you can give gifts to friends...and the layout is always changing as are the options availlable to make it more personal. It is crazy to me. I know i use face book as a glorified email but it so in depth now...is seems almost everyone has a facebook, or myspace. It is a whole new idea in social networking and communication. it is also intersting to me that the creator is a harvard drop out that is making tons of money...i was think abou this and then i was reading todbits blog and he brought it up to and is trying to do a podcast on it.

todbit's blog:
really think it’s time to do a segment on Facebook’s exploding popularity. Its adoption curve is way stronger than MySpace and it seems that “normal” people (not just teens and nerds) are really getting into it.
The CEO is a 22-year-old Harvard dropout who turned down a $1 BILLION takeover offer from Yahoo.
The piece would ’splain why Facebook, and other social media sites, are so popular and the impact they’re having on our relationships and the news business.

TodBITS!

i found a blog called tobbits. this guy talks all about new media and new technology and what he thinks about it but it is what he does for a living i find that very interesting that someone can make a living just talking about new media and using new media to talk about new media. He does podcasts, blogs etc.

This is really intersting to me it is just goes to show that media especially new media is a self sufficent entity.

Apple--Pro Care, One to one and personal shopper

The following is some services that apple now offers to customers. I think after reading about these services it is easy to see how important new media has become to people. There are basically people being trained to be new media experts and shoppers for people to help thme find things to make their lives even easier with technological advancements.

There is ProCare:

iPhone Sales?

Recently when i was browsing the internet i found an article about the iPhone. Apple's new phone/ mp3 / everything player. The phone can only get service with At&t.

"Well, if you're like a majority of respondents to a recent Markitecture survey, the answer is no. The market-research firm asked 1,300 people whether they had heard of the iPhone, and whether they would buy one. While 77 percent said they knew about the iPhone, 66 percent of those people said there was no chance they'd actually purchase one. And only 6 percent expressed a desire to own one. But according to Markitecture, 6 percent may not be as piddling as it sounds. As the firm points out, the ubiquitous Motorola RAZR had about 6 percent of the market at its zenith."

These statistics where further explained by why people didn't plan on buying it. Alot had to do with cost. I think that it is important to see this because there is so many new technologies and media outlets available but people still want it at a resonable price.

Joost Advertising Agreements

Joost is a company that is internet peer to peer TV venture. They are in the process of making old tv shows like starsky and hutch, GI joe etc with sony to broadent there viewer spectrum. They want to provide premium content to viewers at no charge. The are running into problems about making the shows available to people around the world. Their plan to make it free is to make advertisers pick up the sponsorship for running the shows.

I think this is a really cool idea to put olders shows on the internet because there is currently a large fan base for older shows. This just goes to show that the public really does influence media.
